Unknown gunmen fired at the Israeli embassy in Athens early on Friday morning, press reports said. The incident occurred at 03.15  in the area of Psyxhico (an Athens suburb), according to one report on the news site defencenet.

The report says that unknown gunmen sped by the Embassy from Stokos Street and opened fire at the Embassy with Kalashnikov rifles. No injuries were reported, but the site claims that there are slight damages to the building because of the shooting.

Greek authorities rushed to the scene and sealed off the area. The news site claims that authorities have found 15 shells from a Kalashnikov rifle, but an ongoing investigation is underway to identify the perpetrators.

The Hellenic Police feared that there would be hit and escalation of events following the recent protests in Athens by radical leftist anarchists in Exarchia for Alexandros Grigoropoulos as well as a bomb attack at a bank in Halandri.

The incident is very similar to that against the German Ambassador in Halandri *over a year ago) which was made by the "Popular Fighters' terrorist organization (Λαϊκοί Αγωνιστές). In that attack four masked gunmen used two Kalashnikov rifles and fired almost 60 rounds of ammunition.

The same terrorist organization is also believed to be responsible for the the attack against the offices of the New Democracy party on Syggrou Avenue, and the failed rocket attack against a car dealership in Varibobi.

HellasFrappe will be following the announcements in the Greek press for any developments, please check back later on today for more updates.
